Last Saturday was the third Cumberland Fell Runners junior championship race held at Flat Fell near Nannycatch gate. Proceedings started with some quiet reflection to remember the anniversary of young Wilf Grove who sadly passed away this time two years ago, special thoughts go out to his family and friends.
The mist was down to start with but lifted just before the first race started at 11:00am. The full course can be seen by the spectators with the U8’s and U10’s running one lap, the U12’s and U14’s two laps, and the U16’s 3 laps. It was a damp start but that didn’t deter the 30 gutsy starters.
Last Saturday was the second Cumberland Fell Runners junior championship race the popular Jarret Jaunt which was held on an all new course which seemed very popular with the youngsters. A reasonable day weather wise brought 28 to the start line. The course was fully flagged following the river Ehen then into the sports field, then turning sharp right, round the rugby field then the long haul up to the top corner of the field before a steep descent back to the finish along the river. The U8’s and U10’s ran one lap, the U12’s and U14’s two laps, the U16’s three laps and the U18’s four laps.
The setting for the 1st CFR Junior championship race of 2012 was Blake's Heaven at Lamplugh, it was a lovely bright, crisp and sunny day with a touch of ground frost. 33 youngsters turned out for this fantastic season opener. The course involved laps of the undulating lower slopes of Owsen Fell in full view of the spectators. The U8’s and 10’s run one lap, the U12’s and 14’s two laps, the U16’s three laps and the U18’s 4 laps.
Junior training has been cancelled on Saturday 7th January. It will be back the following week on Saturday 14th.
Update 06/01/12: training has also been cancelled on the 7th January
Junior training will take place this Saturday, 17th December, but will not take place on the 24th and 31st of December. Training will resume as normal on Saturday 7th January.
There will be no junior training on Saturday 26th November as it is the Carlisle cross country. Training will resume as normal the following week (3rd December) for those that don't want to run at the Cross Country Championships in Keswick.

The CFR Junior Presentation Night 2011 will take place on Friday 14th October at the Cleator Moor Celtic Club, arrive at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. Tickets are available from Bob Riley (01946 817585), adults tickets cost £5 and kids go free! Night includes buffet, presentation, guest speaker and raffle.
There will be no junior training on Saturday 8th October as it is the first Cumbria Cross Country race, at Cockermouth, and also Wasdale Show. Don't forget the Junior Presentation Night the week after on Friday 14th.
