Cumberland Fell Runners

The juniors were lucky, as for the second week in a row, they were afforded warm, bright sunshine for their 2nd championship race, the Jarrett Jaunt. Lower numbers than usual, due to a clash with the schools cross country did not deter the 25 youngsters who challenged the northern flanks of Dent Fell.

The U8s race kicked off the proceedings following the fully flagged course at 12:00 pm, Millie Park won the girls race in 6:54 followed by Rachel Kellet in 8:49 and Molly Robinson in a time of 9:20. Alex Walker and Louisa Graham both followed very closely in 9:22 and 9:24 respectively. First U8 boy was Mathew Egglestone in a time of 8:08 followed by Barnaby Walkinshaw, unattached, in 8:47 and Harry Lamb in a well run 9:33.

In the U10s race lone competitor Elsa Whelan brought the girls home in a fast 8:03. Joseph Dugdale was first U10 boy returning in a time of 5:42 followed closely by Robert Farrar in 5:47, Zac Anderson in 6:27, Mark Brailey in 6:40 and Samuel Graham in 6:42. Thomas Adams and Billy Robinson earned a well run 6:46 and 8:28 respectively.

U12s were next off the line, Bramble Park was first back for the girls in a time of 13:30. Oliver Dawson was the first U12 Boy in a time of 11:11 followed by Kieran Riley in a well earned 12:55.

In the U14 girls race Lucy Whelan was the only competitor, winning maximum points in a well run time of 13:12.

In the U16 boys race Billy Edmondson of Ellenborough won in 15:20 followed by Jack Taylor who picked up maximum CFR championship points in a well run time of 19:33.

Finally the U18s set off at 1:00pm with the senior race to follow the 4.5 mile course, Marc Brown (17th overall) returned to the fells to win in a time of 42:52 (60:52 handicap) followed closely by Duncan Eastoe (19th overall) in 43:04 (66:04 handicap) and Jamie Riley (31st overall) in a very well run 49:35 (62:35 handicap).

The next CFR Junior Championship race is Flat Fell on Saturday 6th March, first race is off at 11:00 am from Nannycatch car park. Full details can be found here
