Flat Fell 2010 Race Report
Yet again the juniors experienced bright sunshine for their 3rd championship race which took place on the sloping sides of Flat Fell on Saturday 27th March. The rescheduled event attracted 26 CFR runners, all hoping to take away some valuable championship points.
The U8s race kicked off the morning's races following one lap of the fully flagged course at 11:00 am, Olivia Mason won the girls race in 5:05 followed by Anna Mason in 5:43. Olivia Fearon and Cerys Simpson followed in times of 6:44 and 7:20 respectively. First U8 boy was Mathew Egglestone in a time of 5:22 followed by Eughan Simpson in 6:16, Kyle Anderson in 6:28 and closely by Barnaby Walkinshaw in a well run 6:30.
In the U10 girls race sole competitor Elsa Whelan took the win in a fast 5:37. Joseph Dugdale was first U10 boy returning in a time of 4:16 followed closely by Zac Anderson in 4:30 and Thomas Adams in 5:06.
U12s were next off the line, now following two laps of the course. Rebecca Buchanan was first back for the girls in a time of 8:41 followed by Niamh Hedley in 9:09 and Cerys Atkinson in a well run 9:18. Oliver Dawson was the first U12 Boy in a time of 8:05 followed by Kieran Riley in a well earned 9:08.
In the U14 girls race Lucy Whelan took maximum points in a time of 9:44 followed by Molly McAleavey in a well run 11:06. In the boys race Tom Wright was first home in a time of 7:21 followed closely by Joseph Smith in 8:12 and by Cieran Simpson in a time of 10:32.
The U16s were the next up to race with three laps of the course to complete. Alice Rea took all 12 points for the girls in a time of 15:49. In the boys race Nathan Thompson won in 11:25 followed by Jack Taylor in a well run 14:35.
Finally the U18s followed four course laps, Duncan Eastoe won as the only competitor in a time of 15:39.
The next CFR Junior Championship race is the Anniversary Wa! on Saturday 24th April, first race is off at 11:30 am from Stair, near Keswick. This race is pre entry by 22nd April, details on the race website anniversarywaltz.co.uk. Full details can also be found here
