Tuesday Club Runs

We meet every Tuesday at 6.30pm for a club run on the beautiful Western fells. Our usual haunts include the fells surrounding Buttermere (Grasmoor, High Stile, Melbreak) and the Western fells around Ennerdale and Cold Fell.

We run for 1-2 hours at a comfortable pace with frequent re-grouping and some runners incorporating hill reps. Sometimes a fast group will decide to go further or a slow group to stay lower: it varies each week with the terrain and the turnout.

If you're visiting the area or thinking of joining the club, we'd love to have you along, but please get in touch before the run.

Staying safe on our club runs is no single person's responsibility. On a club run, we all look out for each other, but safety starts with each individual runner. Please bring appropriate kit for the weather conditions. Consider waterproof whole body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, thermal layer, bivi bag, shelter, torch, water, food.

18/06/2019 18:30 Bowness Knotts

NY 110 153

Great Borne, Starling Dodd and a possible extension to Red Pike. Without the extension the run is just over 12 Km with 600m of climb. It usually takes us just over 2 hours.

For those travelling from the North - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00.

25/06/2019 18:30 Cold Fell Road - stone circle

NY 060 137

Warm up crossing the road, then straight up Blakeley. Off to the tops of Grike and Crag Fell before the trot back down the track and over Blakely again. Hoping not to meet horses. Last December, it was 11.5 km with 500 m of climb (and hopefully it will still be this long). It took us 90 minutes. Possible extension of Whoap.

For those travelling from the North - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00.

02/07/2019 18:30 Fellside

NY 305 376

A recce of the Fellside race route, which is the next race in the club champs. This is a great course with lots of fast, grassy running, but with potential for some good fun route finding. Worth a look round this less frequented part of the world. The run is 13.5 Km with 650 m of climb. Last time we went, it took us just under two hours, though this year it will be dry and sunny and we zoom round.

For those travelling from the everywhere - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00. It takes 30 minutes to drive to Fellside from here, so a prompt get away is required.

09/07/2019 18:30 Leaps Beck

NY 087 182

The Gavel and Blake Fell double. Last time we went round this, it was 11 Km, with 400 m of climb and we were out for over 2 hours - but I seem to recall having to crawl a bit because of the wind, so this is likely to be a good bit less time than this. We might throw in an extension over Knock Murton, if we can find the path up.

For those travelling from the North - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00.

16/07/2019 18:30 Bottom of Newlands Pass

NY 177 171

Huge climb up Robinson, probably calling in on Snockrigg on the way back down. Possible extension to Hindscarth or even Dale Head. Simple up and down Robinson is just under 8 Km, with the huge 700 m of climb. Last year it took us 95 minutes. Tradition has it that we retire to the Fish Inn and order a bar meal and something to wash it down with. The Fish will not take pre orders, and reckon they can cope with us ordering on the night. Last orders for food is at 21:00 - this needs to kept in mind when thinking the Dale Head option is a good idea.

For those travelling from the North - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00.

23/07/2019 18:30 Fangs Brow

NY 105 226

Note that most club members will be saving themselves for tomorrow night's race at Fellside - one of the CFR club champs races. There could be a very small turnout tonight. However, the club will try to ensure that there is going to be someone present who knows the way. The small group of people present will decide which way to tackle Blake Fell. Expect to be out for 90 minutes on what is likely to be around 8 Km with 400m of climb.

For those travelling from the North - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00. You may of course be sharing amongst yourself...

30/07/2019 18:30 Sale Fell

NY 191 301

The Ling Fell, Sale Fell double. Expect just over 8 Km with a rather surprising 550 m of climb. This took us 75 minutes last time we battled with the rain and wind in the dark, but tonight should be quicker because we will be desperate to get to the Peter Crompton sponsored summer party where Strawberries and Champers that are on offer after the run.

At the time of writing the intention is to have a bit of a social down by Bassenthwaite Lake in the glorious sunshine. Plan B is to hunker down under the road bridge. There will be further details on Facebook and on here.

For those travelling from the North - meet at Mitchell's Auction Market on the outskirts of Cockermouth at 17:50, ready to reduce the number of cars. Leaving at 18:00.
